If you were chronically online in 2016 like me, then you might remember when Kylie Jenner said 2016 was the year of “just realizing things.” Though she got trolled for it, come December every year I can’t help thinking “Damn… Kylie was right, this was the year of realizing things!” every single year since.
So, what did I realize in 2024? A lot, actually. I realized it was time to start living in the now and stop waiting for life to get “easy.” Now I have sweat at enough hot yoga classes and played with enough crystals to know what mindfulness is, but it took me 28 years of life to truly get it (shout out to my developed frontal lobe!). After some soul searching, self-help book reading and podcast listening, I came up with a daily ritual that will give all the calm and intentional vibes you need for 2025.
Morning routine: This morning ritual sets the tone for the rest of your day.
Step 1: The 5-second rule
The first step to any morning routine is getting out of bed.
If you are on a self improvement journey or spiritual awakening and you have not listened to Mel Robbins Podcast, you should get on it! Mel asks experts the hard questions so you do not have to- my favorite podcast for sure! The 5-second rule is when you start at 5 and count backwards, then force yourself into action! This is one of the many things I have learned from Mel, and she now has a book that explains the concept way better than I did (get it HERE). I use the 5-second rule to get out of bed in the morning. When you hit snooze, you fall back into a deeper sleep and it actually makes it harder to get out of bed. Plus, staying in bed too long may not give you time to complete the rest of the morning ritual.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Let’s get this day started!
Step 2: Phone free meditation space
You will be plugged in the rest of the day, keep the phone away!
Once you hop out of bed, make your way to your designated area for meditation. This could be a chair or mat or any space that gives you comfortable and calm vibes. Light a candle or incense to set the mood or play light music in the background.
Step 3: Journaling, affirmations, and meditation
It is now time to set your intentions for the day.
Journaling: After I am settled into my meditation space and set the vibes just right, I get out my journal. I suggest you explore different types of journaling (prompted, bullet, reflective, etc.) and find one that speaks to you. I prefer reflective journaling where I recap what I learned from the previous day and anticipate any celebrations or challenges for the day ahead. You can use a cute journal (you can get mine that I am obsessed with HERE) that sparks inspiration or you can just use paper- Your intention is what matters! If it works in your schedule better, move journaling to your bedtime routine.
Sprinkle of woo woo: Draw a tarot card to see what advice or guidance it could provide you for the day
Affirmations: Movies and TV shows depict people stating affirmations in the mirror in an embarrassingly desperate attempt to get their life together. It did not seem glamorous. I was skeptical about the power of affirmations until I learned the power of manifestation after reading Vex King’s Good Life, Good Vibes (Get it HERE) and now they are the most important part of my daily ritual. They help remind me of what key aspects of my life I want to be intentional about. I used Pinterest to help me curate three affirmations that resonated with what I need currently, and I change them as I feel necessary. These are my current affirmations that I say out loud to speak them into the universe:
I am in control of my own peace. I have everything I need to create the life I desire. My self-worth comes from with-in, and I can achieve anything I set my mind to.
Meditation: Looking back I laugh at how intimidated I was by meditation. It seemed like meditation was on a level that was reserved for Ghandi and not meant for little old me. This was until I realized meditation is just mindful and intentional breathing. That’s it! While you meditate, choose one affirmation to focus on deeply and be aware of your 5 senses. There are many ways to meditate, just find one that works for you. YouTube is my most valuable source for guided meditations. I love Ally Boothroyd’s channel for longer Yoga Nidra meditations. Type any feeling you want into Youtube and you will find a guided meditation for it. Want to feel confident? There is a meditation for it! If you do not have time to sit for 15-30 minutes in the morning, you could meditate in the shower or just close your eyes and breath for the duration of a relaxing song. Tailoring your meditation style to fit your schedule is crucial to staying consistent!
Midday and bedtime routine: Building off of your morning routine
Midday:
You do a morning ritual when you wake up and a night time ritual when you go to bed, but when do you do a midday routine? That is the first item you will want to test out! You could stack your midday ritual with lunch or during a break in your workday. Consistency is key. Next, state affirmations. They can be the same affirmations from the morning or they could be completely different. I tailor mine to my specific career (teaching):
I am a capable and confident teacher. I treat myself and my students with respect. I am making a difference in my students’ lives.
To finish your midday ritual, meditate again focusing on an intention. To save time while at work, I take 10 long and deep breaths, keeping track of each breath on my fingers. On particularly rough days though, I do a longer, guided meditation. Again, customize the ritual to fit your needs and your schedule!
Bedtime:
Have an attitude of gratitude! Before I go to sleep, I reflect on and name three aspects of my day or life that I am grateful for. Then, I state the affirmation I am at peace with myself and the world around me until I drift off to dream land. I have found that this affirmation helps keep the “mind chatter” that my brain tries to do when I am trying to sleep.
To have a mystic and mindful 2025 personalize and practice your daily ritual to bring calm and intentional energy into your life! What will your daily ritual look like? Let me know in the comments and SHARE with someone who would love this!
